VFCC Collects Canned Goods for Community

by Office of Marketing | October 27, 2009
Valley Forge Christian College's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) sponsored a successful community outreach by raising over 1000 canned goods for the Phoenixville Area Community Services food bank. SAAC partnered with the VFCC Student Government Association (SGA) and the Chick-fil-A restaurant in Royersford, PA, to create a competition among the six varsity college sports teams to encourage the college community to donate the canned goods.

During October 14-19, students, staff and faculty were encouraged to eat at the Royersford Chick-fil-A and turn in coupons specifying their preferred college team. At the end of the week the Men's basketball team had the highest total of sales and received 100 canned goods toward their total. During the next three days bins were placed in specified locations on campus and the campus community was encouraged to bring in canned goods. After the final tally the Women's soccer team was the clear winner having collected almost 500 canned goods. Coming in a distant second was the Men's basketball team followed in third place by the Men's soccer team.

The winning team was honored during the chapel service on October 22. The Chick-fil-A cow along with a representative from the restaurant made the presentation. Following the service the Women's soccer team, SAAC and SAG members were treated to a Chick-fil-A catered lunch.
