Patriots Win Big at AG Tournament

The VFCC women's basketball team brought home the first-place trophy in the annual Assemblies of God Basketball Tournament which was held on January 14-15. This year's tournament, sponsored by the AG Credit Union, was held at Trinity Bible College in Ellendale, ND. 

The Lady Patriots went undefeated while winning the tournament for the first time in their history. They beat Trinity Bible College 62-52, on the first night and Central Bible College 79-29, on the second night. Playing for the championship, they were paired against undefeated North Central University. Both teams fought hard but when the final buzzer sounded, the VFCC Lady Patriots were ahead 71-67. Freshmen, Amanda Reich and Amanda Compton, were named to the AGCU All-Tournament team. Amanda Compton was also named as the tournament's Most Valuable Player. 

Meanwhile the men's basketball team returned to the tournament as the reigning champions after winning the tournament for the first time in 2009. Playing Trinity Bible College on the first night, six Patriots reached double-digits in scoring, beating the host team 103-65. The second night saw the Patriots win over Central Bible College 73-66, paving the way for the championship game against North Central University. North Central was leading at half-time 33-29, but was unable to hold the lead and fell to the Patriots 62-56. Senior Keith Watkins was named to the All-Tournament Team while sophomore Justin Kinsey was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
