The Valley Forge Christian College women’s basketball team participated in the Gallaudet Holiday Tournament, at Gallaudet University (Washington, DC), on Nov. 23 - 24. Though it was only their second appearance in this specific event, the Patriots fought hard to claim a victory!
Their championship run began with a difficult match against the Wesley College Wolverines. VFCC dominated the first half of competition and entered half-time with a 13-point lead; however, the Wolverines fought back during the second half – eventually reducing the Patriots lead by only one point. With stubborn defense and percise free throw shooting in the final minute of play, the women were able to secure a 60-55 victory.
In the final game, VFCC played the host university – Gallaudet. Though our Patriots had the challenge of facing the Gallaudet Bison, they played with quickness and resilience to earn the win! In the end, VFCC came out on top, with a convincing 65-47 victory.
The championship game also hosted a few noteworthy statistics. Three separate Patriots scored in the double digits – Amanda Reich, Morgan Godwin, and Aliyah Carr. In an impressive performance, Amanda Reich produced her first double-double of this season, earning 16 points and 10 rebounds. Furthermore, Morgan Godwin scored a personal season-high of 23 points against the Bison; after the championship game, she was named MVP of the tournament.
Congratulations to the VFCC women’s basketball team on their remarkable championship run in theGallaudet Holiday Tournament!
