The Delta Sigma Award

by Office of Marketing | November 05, 2013
In early October, Valley Forge Christian College (VFCC) was honored to have Dr. Marilyn Abplanalp, President of the Alliance for Assemblies of God Higher Education, on campus to speak in chapel and present five of our longest serving faculty members with the Delta Sigma Award.

The award derives its name from the Greek term “teacher of wisdom." It is offered as recognition of at least 25 years of teaching in Assemblies of God (AG) colleges and universities by the Alliance for Assemblies of God Higher Education, which exists to acquaint people with the advantages of attending an AG school.

Dr. Abplanalp bestowed The Delta Sigma Award upon five faculty members: Laura Brookins, Kathleen Terragnoli '83, Dr. Malcolm Brubaker, Dr. William DeSanto and Dr. JoAnn Smith. These professors have collectively accrued a total of more than 150 years serving in AG higher education.

After the presentation of the awards, Brookins and Terragnoli were given special recognition for their years of service at VFCC. Both professors elaborated on Dr. Abplanalp’s claim that everything educators do is for the benefit of their students – asserting that their mission field is the classroom, where they seek to enrich the lives of every student.
