Dr. Marianne Modica, Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education, successfully defended her dissertation on November 14, 2013.

Dr. Modica’s dissertation titled "Race Among Friends: Race, Friendship, and Multicultural Literature in a Suburban School," was completed through the Ph.D. program at Rutgers University, in Camden, N.J. The dissertation examined race relations and racial identity among students and staff at a racially diverse public high school. She is currently seeking to have her dissertation published as an academic book.

Dr. Modica will graduate from Rutgers University this month and will receive a Ph.D. in Childhood Studies.

Dr. Modica is very thankful for her 16 years of commitment to excellence here at VFCC and to the call of God on the lives of countless students. VFCC celebrates this important achievement in the life of its most recent professor to have earned her doctorate degree.
